Approved Current and Future Projects

Some of the current and future projects the current Council has approved and staff is working to complete:

WWTP expansion (Courtright):  The environmental assessment project has been awarded and we have had good response from the Ministries involved and our MP and MPP have reached out in support of our project request.  The EA has to be completed before design work can be completed.  A capacity study has been completed to justify the expansion.  I presented funding request to Provincial Ministers in Augusts and the response has been positive.

Asset Management Plans:  I am part of this team and have been working with staff in the planning stages

  • Core Asset plan is complete (Public Works Services)
  • Community Services plan is in progress (parks and facilities)

Eastern Power expansion for hydrogen ready energy production-still in early stages with Government, our concern is that we are able to meet water and waste water requirements

Natural Gas on Rokeby Line, other areas needed:  Enbridge is responsible for natural gas distribution and applications for service are made to Enbridge and the Township has little control over providing this service.

Hill Street, Corunna:  Traffic and road diet feasibility studies (traffic calming suggestions) were completed in 2022.  Public consultations are the next step and staff is working on organizing this.

Beckwith street improvements:  According to our asset management plan, the level of service for our core assets is a rating of good, which Beckwith street’s conditions are rated as.  The level of service on this road is tar & chip and without Council making it a priority item for replacement, it will remain as is or will be replaced when it deteriorates to a poor condition.  Street lights are approved as a capital budget item.

Pedestrian Crossings installations: Projects have been tendered and awarded to Cope Construction,

-Hill at Nash: staff is patiently waiting for line locates to proceed with the pedestrian crosswalk which is scheduled to be installed before winter.

-Brander Park, Pt. Lambton: waiting for line locates

-Sir John Moore School: in the process

CSX Tracks, Port Lambton:  Lambton County is planning to resurface Broadway Street and  Bentpath Line in the near future and CSX has committed to refurbishing the rail crossings in conjunction with the paving.

Recycling transition plan:  Effective July 2, 2023, the PROS (producers) will be responsible for the collection of recycling materials and the Township will no longer be involved.

Shoreline protection status: Staff is working on obtaining funding for 3 projects. A total of $5,000,000 is needed.

Water Street Sombra $3,000,000. Seager Park in conjunction with the SCRCA

13 Streetlights from Brander park to the south of Port Lambton are scheduled to be installed this year

3 Bridge replacements along St. Clair Parkway are in the design process.  Two over Marshy Creek and one over the Sweeney drain.

Port Lambton Sanitary pump stations on Queen Street and Riverside Drive have been rehabilitated.

Parking lot in McDonald Park and Reedy Street in Port Lambton are to be completed when the water line installation in complete

Sombra Hall Repairs:  work on the foundation is in the tendering process and it is hoped the repairs can be completed this fall.

Washroom replacement – Courtright Park has been approved and a new design is pending from the parties interested in partnering with the Township to build one.  Guthrie Park is included in the budget again for 2023.  At my request, Staff is compiling a report on the best options for the other riverside parks (as requested by council) for consideration in the 2023 budget.

New playgrounds – Paddock green St. Clair Blvd.- planning is in the works for a playground, and negotiations for the builder of Paddock Green Phase 19 for a playground equipment in the Queen Street area

Mooretown Centennial Park:  When seawall is replaced, the boardwalk will be replaced with grass

Brigden splash pad update:  drainage issues have been rectified and staff is working with the contractor who completed the cement work as it is unsatisfactory, due in part to concrete supply issues.  Concrete has been replaced.

Dedecker Park:  shoreline protection and work on the grounds is complete

Internet status:  Council and staff are not aware of any new projects beyond the SWIFT initiative.  We have made efforts in the past by reaching out to providers and despite our willingness to work with them and providing some funding, it has not been feasible for them to pursue this on a large scale.

OPP detachment:  nothing has been communicated to staff or council about the detachment closing and negotiations would occur when their lease expires in 2027

Centre:  currently there are doctors practicing there.  Staff and Council received a proposal for a temporary blood clinic that was not financially feasible for the tax payers.

Size of land there we own 2.5 acres, and proximity to railway and other residential properties could hinder the development of an alternate use for the property

Status of Diagio property:  weed control has been taken care of, field is plowed.

Bussing for Corunna to Sarnia:  a motion was tabled by current council for the new council to discuss this

Dog Park in Corunna:  2 proposals have come to Council in the past and a detailed report was provided by staff which indicated we did not have a place that would be suitable

Fire fighting levels of service will be evaluated and appropriate training will be carried out.

Tom Street, Corunna sanitary trunk re-location plans have been developed and next stages are in progress
