You might be wondering why I put a recipe on all my campaign postcards. It’s a way of giving you a little something personal from me as they are part of my family traditions. It can be cut off the card and added to your recipe box (for those who still use recipes cards in a box) Besides, you’ll keep my card around a little longer!
I want you to think about your favourite foods like the ones your Mom, Grandma, Aunt, Sister or Friend makes and how they make you feel. Food has a way of stirring up memories of times spent with those close to you.
How many times have you walked into a room, caught the scent of something delicious and that scent took you back to a place of joy or happiness or it’s brought back a memory that you have forgotten.
My family has simple foods that we only make once or twice a year, usually on special occasions. There’s no reason we can’t make our Christmas morning Wife Saver anytime of the year but keeping to tradition is what creates the memories we hold onto for a lifetime.
My favourite is my Grandma’s homemade buns warm from the oven with real butter. I always crossed my fingers as I approached her house for visit that a tray of homemade goodness. I have the recipe written by hand but I’ve never been able to master the art of whipping up a batch of buns just in time for the arrival of company.
The biscuits on my campaign postcard this election is the biscuits my grown children ask me to make whenever they visit. The whole batch is usually gone by noon!
Bake up a batch for your next Sunday breakfast and don’t forget to serve them warm from the oven with real butter and a little jam.
