If you were not able to attend one of the Candidate’s Meetings to meet the candidates and hear me speak, this is what I had to say:
It just seems like yesterday, my Dad Al Stanton got a job at Polysar moved me, my Mom Kay and my sister Krista to Corunna from Kingston.
Next thing I know, I’ve graduated from SCITS and worked my whole career at our family business KAY’S Petals & Plants. After 45 years I closed the shop and retired as the owner of a successful, prosperous and award winning business.
I’ve lived in Corunna for 50 years and been married for 36 years to Rob Kingston who is retired from Corunna’s Shell Refinery. We have 2 amazing daughters Nicole and Allison who have careers in civil engineering and humanitarian aid.
I have a passion for bringing the community together. This has been evident during my involvement with Capt. Kidd Days, The Chamber of Commerce, florist associations, Bluewater Health Dream Home Lottery and the Canadian Cancer Society. As longtime, active Moore Optimist member, I’ve held the offices of President, Santa Parade Chair, board member and initiated a grocery delivery service during covid.
Over my lifetime, I’ve developed leadership skills through 4H, Girl Guides, Junior Achievement, and the Dale Carnegie course.
As a Councillor for 8 years, I’ve gained valuable knowledge serving on numerous committees including: Parks Advisory, Committee of Adjustment, Asset Management, and Sports Complex Fundraising. Although unable to secure funds for a new sports complex, recent upgrades have made it a safer place.
The Mayor is also a member of County Council and as the current Mayor’s alternate, I have attended meetings in his absence.
The township is working on expanding our WWTP which is essential for economic growth. I’ve written funding requests for this and presented them to 2 Provincial Ministers in Ottawa.
If elected, I will continue to support:
- Village Beautification
- Golf Course & park upgrades
- construction of public washrooms
- Shoreline protection
- Hill street road calming solutions
A new Council will be excited to approve new initiatives, but before any new projects are considered, there must be accountability for their necessity and sustainability.
As Mayor, I will provide leadership to:
- Write a strategic plan that aligns with our asset management plans
- Create a task force for economic and cultural enhancement
- Improve communication methods with our residents
- Develop a transportation needs study for busses, bikes and pedestrians
The Mayor has no more power than any other member of Council to make decisions on behalf of the municipality; decisions are made by Council as a whole.
As expected of a Mayor, I will uphold the decisions of majority, whether I agree with them or not.
I will proudly work in a cooperative, professional and open manner. I will participate in and foster activities that enhance the economic, social and environmental well-being of St. Clair Township and its residents.
The position of Mayor is not about ego or personal gain; it’s truly about Caring for our Community.
